Cover art for Stellar Audio’s VA LP, “This is Stellar Vol. 1”.
For this project, I was briefed to create more than just a cover. Stellar Audio wanted this LP to have as much visual impact as it does audio.
The visuals for the LP were inspired by the Golden Record sent to space attached to the Voyager 1 probe. The LP was designed as a sort of time capsule telling the story of rave music culture to extraterrestrials, instead of human kind as a whole, like Sagan’s.
The capsule comprises of 15 audio tracks and a set of photographs taken by me and various other photographers of the UK rave music scene.
The cover’s main theme is are the ‘4 pillars of rave culture’. Sonics, technology, community and dance.
Four singles were released in the run up to the LP. Each of their artworks were taken from the rear of the record cover, with one icon from a ‘pillar’ on each of them respectively. The icons were supposed to be a sort of clue or code hinting at the main theme of the LP, with the LP’s main cover explaining itself when it was fully released.
